Pirate Versions of “Doctor Who” Game Show Up OnLine

Pirate Versions of “Doctor Who” Game Show Up OnLine

June 10, 2010 By Mike Hickerson 1 Comment

If you live outside the UK and used alternate methods to acquire a copy of the new game “City of the Daleks,” be careful.

The game is available for download and play to users inside the UK. Users outside the region will have to wait until the game is officially released in their markets later this month. (The U.S. gets it later this month and there will be a price tag for it).

Of course, in the Internet age, it was only a matter of time until cracked version of the game began showing up on popular peer to peer sharing sites.

However, downloading the game could create problems says Sunbelt Software security researcher Chris Boyd.

““There are some things even the mighty sonic screwdriver can’t fix, and your PC is probably one of them,” he tells “Who” related web site Kasterborous.

““There are still a number of large files popping up on torrents and forums claiming to be versions of the game that can bypass the region protection – while the files examined so far don’t appear to be doing anything untoward, I have seen a couple of smaller sized files out there (2MB or less!) claiming to be Doctor Who games since the real thing was released…. as you’ve probably guessed, they’re not very friendly,” he added.

So basically, be wary of the things that happen when ANYTHING gets released onto BitTorrent.
