Journalist and author Dave Schilling talks about the new book Horror’s New Wave: 15 Years of Blumhouse, celebrating the impact Blumhouse has had on horror entertainment with now-iconic franchises, and sometimes unconventional storytelling.

Dave talks about how the idea for commemorating this milestone for Blumhouse in this scrapbook/coffee table style book, and in choosing “15 movies for 15 years” and how deep to dive into each film and the making of them, and him talking with all of the voices involved in creating those films. There’s also a smaller focus on the importance of the franchises, and an appendix that includes all of the Blumhouse projects, including the television projects and some of the smaller films, but this book is focused on the theatrical highlights of Blumhouse’s first fifteen years.

We talk about the variety of horror subgenres Blumhouse explores (including the horror-comedy), and the different approaches to comedy and satire in horror that fans enjoy. The care and attention paid to the practical effects and the sound design and music are also highlighted, and the included photos and unique media elements from pre-production, production and behind-the-scenes.

The Top 10 lists and the Kill Counts are prime sources for future horror trivia nights.
