Tom Baker Reprising His Role as the Doctor

Tom Baker Reprising His Role as the Doctor

July 10, 2012 By Michael Hickerson 10 Comments

Big news for Doctor Who fans–the fourth Doctor will be back to celebrate the show’s golden anniversary next year.

A source close to the show confirmed that Tom Baker will don his iconic scarf for the upcoming 50th anniversary celebration.

Baker will team up with Matt Smith for an upcoming episode.

“It will be fitting to have Tom back to mark the 50 years. He was a big part of the show’s success and is much-loved by the fans,” the insider says.

Baker was not part of the show’s 20th anniversary celebration, “The Five Doctors” because he’d just left the role of the Doctor the year before and he wanted to distance himself from the series. ย  But he’s softened his stance since that time, expressing an interest in returning to the series as the new Master during David Tennant’s tenure and then as the fourth Doctor for the anniversary.

I am thrilled to hear this! It will be great fun to see him in the show one more time.

    This makes me happy.

Now, if they do it right, they can pull Doc 4 from the “Leisure Hive” where he was prematurely aged, and they will do something unheard of in Doctor Who… They will have internal consistency… yeah, I know, but I can dream…

Fantastic news. They will need to dye Tom’s white hair though since the Doctor is ageless.

He’s not ageless, but he ages far more slowly than humans do. We saw the Doctor age 100 years at the hands of the Master (as Harold Saxon) in “The Sound of Drums.”
BTW – If Time Lords were ageless, wouldn’t they be stuck as infants and therefore die out pretty quickly? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Tom Baker is one of my favorite Doctors and I am glad that he has decided to participate.

let me guess…… Doctors 1, 2 & 3 get stuck in a time vortex because Doctor 3 reversed the polarity of the neutron flow in the tardis’ electric kettle while making a cup of tea….. Doctor 4 will be confined to a chair, leaving the other Doctors to find out where Doctor 9 is…. And he will of course be stuck in the same vortex, because he will be doing a Tom Baker ala “The Five Doctors”. I can’t seem to remember Doctor 9 ever punting down a river… i wonder what clip they will use. And before any one says ” Ha Ha punting down a river”, DOCTOR 9 AND RIVER SONG NEVER MET!

I look forward to this ep, but with the current string of Moffat seasons, I won’t expect much. It will be nice to see Baker in the Scarf again.

With Tom Baker’s cavalier coolness in the face of perpetual adversity, and his universal world weariness coupled with a compassion for humans other than his companions, I can wish he was returning for more than an anniversary. WHO ๐Ÿ™‚ is knitting his new scarf?
