With Marvel and Disney raking in tons of summer movie cash with The Avengers, you knew it was only a matter of time until DC and Warner Brothers got into the game.
The long gestating Justice League movie may finally have some momentum Variety reports. In fact, Warner and DC have been contemplating the film for a lot longer than we may think. According to reports, Warners hired Will Beall last year to begin crafting a script for the superhero film. Beall is a hot commodity these days, working on a reboot of Lethal Weapon (no, we’re not kidding), Logan’s Run and the upcoming Gangster Squad, which features actor Ryan Gosling.
And while Beall hasn’t turned in a League script yet, it’s reported that Warner is placing a high priority on the film.
This isn’t the first time a big-screen version of the Justice League has been floated. During the writer’s strike, it was reported that DC and Warners were working on a script and project that could film during the strike and be released soon after it was over.
The project fell apart and many agree that may be for the best.
Fans were teased in I Am Legend with a billboard proclaiming a Superman/Batman team-up film a few years ago as well.
Warner has long wanted to rival Marvel Studios and their comic book movie universe. But the only success DC has found on the big screen of late is with Batman and the parties involved with that are all calling it quits after the next installment later this summer. Last year’s Green Lantern was hoped to be the first of a series of movies leading up to a Justice League movie until it failed critically and commercially.
After Dark Knight Rises hits theaters, DC has a high profile Superman reboot coming up and could then reboot Batman as well. Whether or not both will happen before we see Justice League remains to be seen.

WB should have approached Russell T. Davies to craft a script.
