As the classic Doctor Who DVD line comes to a close, news of a classic series box set has hit the Internet.
Based on the coming soon trailer on the upcoming “Colony in Space” release, we know that a UNIT box set is headed out way sometime next year. The set will include two stories–one from the third Doctor’s era and one from the fourth Doctor’s run.
The stories are “Invasion of the Dinosaurs” and “The Android Invasion.”
“Dinosaurs” is infamous among Who fans for its dodgy dinosaur effects and for the fact that episode one only remains in the BBC archives as a black and white print. One popular fan myth is that it was deleted because it was transmitted with only the title of “Invasion” to keep the secret of the dinosaurs from viewers. This isn’t the case.
For years, the serial was syndicated without episode one. For the VHS release, episode one was included but as the black and white version. We’ve not heard anything official on whether the Restoration Team will use the same process that restored color to “Planet of the Daleks,” Part Three on this episode.
“The Android Invasion” comes from the vaunted era of Tom Baker, Philip Hinchcliffe and Robert Holmes. It’s a four part story by Dalek creator Terry Nation.
