Warehouse 13: “Reset” — A Slice of SciFi Review

Warehouse 13 — “Reset” (Season Two Finale)
Airs: Tuesday, September 21, 9 p.m. on SyFy

Slice of SciFi Rating: 4.0 out of 5.0

A solid end to a solid season

Last year, “Warehouse 13” found its stride mid-season and kept that confidence growing through the season finale. This year, the show continued the stride right out of the gate while adding in a few new recurring elements to give the summer series a bit of an arc structure and story. It’s not quite as difficult an arc to follow as shows like “Lost” or “Battlestar Galactica,” but it was enough of one to give us some more investment in the characters.

Tonight’s season finale continues the work started last week in paying off most of the character arcs from season two as well as working to wrap up the on-going storyline about H.G. Wells.

Last week, Wells betrayed Myka and Pete, stealing something from Warehouse Two and leaving our unconscious heroes to their fate. This week’s episode picks up where last week’s left off with the entire team pursuing Wells as she trots across the globe, trying to assemble an artifact that could lead to global destruction. As if those stakes weren’t high enough, the show finds Myka doubting herself because of the trust she placed in Wells in the light of last week’s betrayal.

For a show that’s usually light, summer fun the season finale (both last week and this) really takes things up a notch. As always the two leads play well off each other and while they have their moments of lighter banter, it’s still nice to see the show is willing to stretch the characters and explore things in a more serious light. The show’s structure of an extended family working together continues to work well and watching all Artie, Mrs. Frederick, Claudia and even Leena get their moments to shine in the finale are a nice touch.

The story is able to walk a fine line between the drive to stop Wells and the character moments without making you feel like one storyline or another is being neglected.

And, of course, it all ends on a cliffhanger. While it’s not the major character in peril that we saw last year, the end of the episode will leave fans hungry for more and curious about how things will unfold when the Christmas episode airs in December.

finally saw it, liked it overall, but the ending, well, spoilers ahead folks:

The way they got rid of the GF annoyed me, made her into a very weak character IMHO, maybe she will be back though, who knows.

And Myka’s exit, what a freaking hipocrit, she convices Eddie to stay and then runs off, no one was killed, and Artie was only injured, but she runs off, she did’t quit the Sercret Service when she got someone killed. Sorry I don’t buy it.
