While I can’t say a great deal about the real plot and what ultimately happens in this next Stargate film on DVD (because I’m a really good guy who doesn’t want to spoil it for any of my readers – also MGM won’t think highly of me anymore-and we can’t have that!); I can tell you this — if you are a fan of the original series with regulars like Richard Dean Anderson, the late Don S. Davis, Cliff Simon (Ba’al) and the rest of the pantheon of Goa’uld god wannabes, then “Stargate: Continuum” will entertain and delight. It will also add one or two surprises about the Goa’uld that fans were never made aware during the show’s 10-year run on television.
Just as the first DVD film, “Stargate: The Ark of Truth,” brought a satisfying and fitting end to the SG-1’s ongoing battle with the Ori and Vala’s (Claudia Black) ascended daughter Adria (Morena Baccarin), this next DVD movie, which spared no expense to bring in some of the best on location shots and special-visual effects to-date for the Stargate verse, does the same for that one loose thread left hanging at the end of the series — what to do about Ba’al and all his clones.
Everybody from the SG-1 franchise gets some camera time, even if it’s only for a quick glance or a one or no-liner, but they are all there from Walter, Siler, Major Marks, President Hayes, even Apophis makes a quick stop by the set, but I won’t tell you how they managed that since we all know he died during the regular run of the television show. Let’s just say that Ba’al has a few tricks up his slithery sleeve for the SG-1 team and planet Earth. In fact the only regular characters not seen in this film are Dr. Janet Fraiser and Master Bra’tac, however, Bra’tac does get a mention.
Of course the series staples Col. Cameron Mitchell (Ben Browder), Col. Samantha Carter (Amanda Tapping), Teal’c (Christopher Judge) Vala (Claudia Black) and Dr. Daniel Jackson (Michael Shanks) are all on hand getting most of the camera time for this exciting story that takes them to the frozen Artic Circle (they really filmed live there with an actual naval submarine and used the sub’s real captain and crew in the film), they travel back in time, forward in time, meet old enemies and friends, as well as some new characters.
Stargate fans will love this film and those newly born or living under a rock and not familiar with the Stargate universe will be wonderfully entertained without need of knowing the full 10-year backstory to this beloved saga.
I can only hope that the entire cast and crew of the Stargate franchise haven’t tired of it and are ready to make more films involving the SG-1 team of Mitchell, Carter, Teal’c. Vala Mal Doran and Jackson, and yes my favorite — General Jack O’Neill. Here is one fan who hasn’t yet had enough and after seeing this great film, wants to see even more.
On a scale of 0 to 5 stars — I give “Stargate: Continuum” .
“Stargate: Continuum” becomes available on July 29, 2008 and you can pre-order your copy HERE.

cant really disagree with the review but for me the appearance of Jack o Neil seems token and Richard dean Anderson looks to me like he is just there for the pay check and doesn’t really have a great deal to do in the film and could have been replaced with a generic character or even removed entirely his character added that little but on the whole forgiving theses little stumbles its an amazing movie.
And it does feel like a movie not a made for tv move, this is a film that could have been released theatrically and here is hoping that in the near future that they do indeed do this as i for one cant wait to see the return of stargate to the big screen.

Any chance for a Stargate Continuum DVD contest, like you did when The Ark Of Truth was released? I really hope so. And hopefully you’ll have more than 1 copy to give away ๐

Great movie. It was nice to see everyone (except for the above two mention characters…which is odd). Fitting to see the old General (RIP Don S. Davis) one last time. I’m glad no paradox incest was involved ๐ . If this was the last of time for the Stargate crew, it is a great goodbye to all. Thank you.

This IS Sci-Fi!!!

To Alex: Stay tuned. We are trying to work something out in that regard and hope it pans out.
To Red Troll: I agree. If this should be the end and the last we see of any new SG-1 material, it was a nice send off.
To Jeremy: Despite all the cries of the Global Warming folk, there is still plenty of frozen Artic Circle available for those willing to live in the 20 to 80 below zero temps and 75 mph winds.

woohoo! ๐
That would be awesome. Crossing fingers to work out.
I’m putting myself on the top of the waiting list. *kidding* ๐
I’m just so happy that we’ll have this chance. I strongly hope this will be my lucky time. I haven’t managed to win neither the Ark of Truth, nor one of the Infinity DVDs. And I’m not entering in the Atlantis contest cause I have it and I’m letting others to win.
I hope the saying “third time lucky” will be true, at least this time ๐
Until then, morning-afternoon-night, I’ll be here, to be the first who finds out ๐

I’ve already got the film pre-ordered, and managed to catch an early screening. For the most part, I enjoyed the film very much. I do agree that the story was worthy of theatrical release, and a longer running time would have given them more opportunity to explore some of the side stories in a little more detail. Without spoiling it for anyone, let me just say that I did have a problem with how they handled the storyline of a character that became disabled. I think that, if they had a little more running time, they could have explored it a little more realistically instead of racing past it with little more than a couple of stereotyped views of the “embittered cripple.” The major story arc was nicely done, however, with no glaring, noticeable plot holes (okay, there was one, but I probably had a problem with it because I’m a she-geek:))

I Don’t Know how or why, but my local Walmart in Baton Rouge, La had Continuum for purchase yesterday 23Jul08. I didn’t think it came out for another week, but there it was. I was very pleased with the movie, and hope another will come soon!!
