While it doesn’t have a script or a star yet, “The First Avenger: Captain America” has a director. Joe Johnson has signed on to direct the Marvel Studios production about the shield-slinging superhero according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Marvel is currently taking pitches for the movie and is expected to hire a screenwriter in the near future.Â
“This is a guy who designed the vehicles for ‘Star Wars,’ who storyboarded the convoy action sequence for ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark,’ ” Marvel Studios Kevin Feige said. “From ‘Rocketeer’ to ‘October Sky’ to ‘The Wolfman,’ you can look at pieces of his movies and see how they lead to this one.”
Feige is serving as excutive producer for the film, which is expected to open in the summer of 2011.
