Damon Open To Playing Kirk

December 11, 2006 by Sam Sloan   || Category: Star Trek

matt-damon-as-captain-kirk-june221.jpgMatt Damon told SCI FI Wire that he’s open to assuming the role of Captain James T. Kirk in the proposed Star Trek XI film. Damon, however, denied previous rumors that he is already in line for the iconic role, which was originated by William Shatner.

“If the script was good, I’d do it,” Damon said in the interview while promoting his latest film, The Good Shepherd. “But, yeah, I heard that [my name was mentioned]. I think J.J. Abrams or somebody said that at press junket or something, and it got picked up [by the media].”

Didn’t JJA already say he wanted “unknowns” for the roles?

No…William Shatner said that Abrams, the last time the two of them talked about the film, was leaning in that direction, but nothing was set yet in stone.

I still think Ben Browder would make a good Kirk… but i don’t care either way, just as long as William Shatner makes an appearance somehow.
