Deathscribe 2016, the 9th Annual International Festival of Radio Horror Plays is in the works, and with submissions still open until July 31, it’s not too late to submit your best, scariest short stage script!
This week, two more members of the WildClaw Theatre Group stop by to talk about what goes into creating the Deathscribe performances. Chris Walsh, the literary manager of WildClaw Theatre Group, and Josh Zagoren, the artistic director of WildClaw stop by. Primarily, Chris reads the submissions for the main stage performances, and Josh designs each performing season and gathers the players who will perform. But there’s so much more that goes into choosing the plays that fit the vision of horror that WildClaw wants to perform to give the audience dread, scares, and gore.
For the Deathscribe competition and performance, they join in The Culling, where the scripts submitted to the competition are evaluated and discussed, where eventually the five finalists for the live performance are chosen.
And writers, if you’re newly inspired to write a short horror performance piece to submit, you have until July 31 to send in your script, following the guidelines:
WildClaw is looking for 10-minute radio scripts that are genuinely scary, imaginative, chilling, intelligent, suspenseful, horrific, or downright grotesque. There are no restrictions as to content or tone, but keep in mind that WildClaw is a Horror Theatre. They take horror seriously, and so should you. WildClaw wants stories about serial killers, insects, distorted squirrels, cannibals, deep ones, plagues, demonic possessions, dogfish howlers, werewolves, vampires, zombies, aliens, and of course, the monster within.
