This week, Kevin Bachelder (Tuning Into Scifi Television) joins Summer to talk about 12 Monkeys, the new series debuting on Syfy Channel on January 16th.

We’ve both seen the first two episodes already, and our skeptically reserved expectations for the series were blown completely out of the water. Summer was expecting a rehash of the feature film (itself a remake of a French short film), and Kevin wasn’t sure what to expect — but both of us watched those two episodes multiple times, eagerly.

But now he and I have to wait an extra two weeks to see new episodes (or maybe not; something wonderful just arrived in the mail), and we don’t like waiting… not when Syfy is potentially giving us just what they’d promised: a return to science fiction storytelling that’s compelling, engaging and GOOD. Now all we need to add are a couple of space opera series this good, and true happiness may spread across the geek landscape again.

Also in today’s show, Noah and Daren review Blackhat, the new thriller from Michael Mann, and even though we are fans of Michael Mann, the story execution in this one fell a little flat for them.

Plus, RapidEye wants a full song version of the new Slice of SciFi theme. I’ll have to check with Chuck and Jim over at Sci-Fried to see if one exists…
