We have learned that our good friend Peter Mayhew will be returning to the Millennium Falcon as Chewbacca for the J.J. Abrams/Disney Studio live-action production of Star Wars VII.
Peter’s return to the furry Wookiee suit brings all the lead cast members from the original trilogy back together again for the first time in nearly 30-years. Already signed are Harrison Ford (Han Solo), Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia), Kenny Baker (R2D2) and Anthony Daniels (C3PO). Mayhew, Baker and Daniels are the only original actors who reprised their roles in one or more of the prequels.
Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed that the timeline for the film takes place three decades after the events of episode VI-Return of the Jedi. “There will be some familiar faces along with a trio of new young leads,” stated Iger. Rumors abound but we will have to wait just a little longer to find out who those “new young leads” are. If they have been cast the studio and Abrams are keeping it under lock and key.
Filming for episode VII began last week and is expected in theaters worldwide by December 18, 2015.
