With news that Disney plans an Episode 7 in the Star Wars universe, the rumor mill has begun to churn with possible directors to take us back to a “galaxy far, far away.”
The first name to crop up is director Matthew Vaughn.
Collider’s Steve Weintraub reports that Vauhgn’s name is at the top of the list for Disney and they are actively pursuing him to work on the project.
“My sources tell me this is the main reason he dropped out of the X-Men sequel (which Bryan Singer is now directing),” Weintraub reports. “Seconds after the deal was announced, a bunch of interviews were released featuring Disney CEO Bob Iger and George Lucas talking about the business deal, and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and Lucas discussing Star Wars: Episode VII and revealing that they’ve already met with writers for the new film. It was clear that this deal has been in the works for awhile.”
