Netflix unveiled a new feature today that allows users to get personal.
With families sharing one Netflix account, the on-line streaming content provider debuted the ability to create up to five profiles per account. Each profile will provide a personalized Netflix based on viewing habits and the user’s queue.
The feature will also allow parents to separate their queue from the children’s queue and allow them more parental controls.
The feature has been the subject of speculation for the past several weeks, but it was made official today. It begins rolling out today and should be available to all users within the next two weeks.
“Now everyone in your home can have their own Netflix experience, built around the TV shows and movies they enjoy,” Netflix Chief Product Officer Neil Hunt said in a statement. “No longer will your Netflix suggestions be mixed up with those of your kids, a significant other, roommates, or house guests.”
Shadoglare says
This is a feature they already had quite a while ago, but for the longest time it’s said it was broken and they were working on it.
Nice to hear it’s back.
Laith Preston says
Yeah, I’m really looking forward to it myself.
I remember that the profiles they had with the DVD service didn’t really work that well for my household.
Being a father of three girls having the profiles split better will be great. I don’t need a bunch of ponies and such in my recommendations, and they don’t need a bunch of action/scifi
Samuel Sloan says
Oh, they need a bunch of sci-fi my friend. They are the future of Gerd/Neekdom. Get them early and you have them for life.
