Could Netflix Revive “Jericho”?

Could Netflix Revive “Jericho”?

May 2, 2012 By Michael Hickerson 6 Comments

Sure it’s been off the air for four plus year, but fans of CBS’s Jericho may have a glimmer of hope that a third season is headed their way.

According to TV Guide, Netflix is considering reviving the post-apocalyptic series that was famous for the write-in campaign to save it involving sending nuts to CBS suits.

Netflix says that viewings of the show are solid on its streaming service and they hope to follow the model of Arrested Development and bring back a show with a built-in, avid fanbase.

Before you get too excited Jericho fans, we should tell you that the talks are in the initial stages and there are a lot of significant hurdles before the third season is a reality.   Netflix and CBS will have to weigh if the investment in a new season will yield a return for both parties.   And Netflix is reportedly weighting how much original content will cost–they’ve already signed off on several originals shows.

This plan also assumes that the original cast and crew can and will return.  How many of the series’ original star could come back remains to be seen.  (Lennie James is part of a pilot for Gotham.)

Jericho has been discussed for revival before in a deal similar to the one that saved Friday Night Lights.  There was also talk of a movie, but so far nothing has come of it.

Alright Jericho fans and detractors, here’s your chance.  Do you think that bringing back the show is a good idea?   We welcome your comments below and to our Listener Feedback line.

Be good news if it happens.

On the grammar Nazi front, you might want to look up the difference between weight and weigh!

“…Netflix and CBS will have to *weight* if the investment…” *weigh*
“…Netflix is reportedly *weighting* how much… *weighing*

HELL YES! Netflix will be my newest best friend if they pull this off. They could do something like a Jericho 1 decade later kind of thingy. That would be sweet.

I hope they start a trend of snagging up series that get cancelled…seems that almost every show I get invested in gets canned…yeah…I’m looking at you Syfy.

IF this happens, that’s a big IF, what will happen to the story that continued in the comics, and the new series of comics that is scheduled to come out this summer?

I’m sorry, but CBS ruined this show by making a 2nd season.

Personally, I don’t care what they do to continue Jericho. If they want to continue the comic-that’s ok with me-if they want to start where season 2 left off-that is ok with me too. I will take Jericho any way that Netflix and CBS can agree to show it! I already have Netflix and watch it daily-I don’t like reality television.
