Netflix Could Revive “The River”

March 22, 2012 By Michael Hickerson 3 Comments

While The River has apparently run its course on ABC, the future may not be bleak for the series.

According to Deadline, Netflix is in conversations to produce a second season of the series.  The site reports that the conversations between ABC Studios and Netflix cover a wide range of potential shows, one of which is The River.

The serialized show could be exactly the kind of show Netflix wants on its streaming service, according to reports.  Time-shifting results show The River does well with viewers who want to watch the show on their schedule and will save up multiple episodes to view in rapid succession.

Officially, The River has not been pulled from ABC yet.  But many figure the show is extinct on the network and because the show is produced by ABC Studios, the network wouldn’t oppose Netflix picking it up.

It would be great if Netflix could be the white knight that saves many great though ratings challenged shows from extinction.

It would be even better if Netflix could do that AND become an actual channel that’s available on cable and satellite services.

I’d just be happy if Netflix finally gets some good movies to stream.
