Moffat: “Who”‘s Fiftieth Anniversay Will Be Huge

Moffat: “Who”‘s Fiftieth Anniversay Will Be Huge

August 4, 2011 By Mike Hickerson 3 Comments

While we’re still over two years out from the official 50th anniversary for the greatest TV show that has been or ever will be, producer Steven Moffat says that plans are being made to celebrate Doctor Who in 2013.

“I’ve got various plans, but all I can say emphatically is it will be huge,” Steven Moffat tells TVLine.

Moffat went on to say that the anniversary won’t just be limited to a single TV special, but will instead be a variety of things to celebrate the series.

“It won’t be just one thing…. We’ll be doing lots of stuff,” is all Moffat would concede. “The plans are quite extensive, and changing all the time. Oh my God, we will hit that year very, very hard indeed.”

Noting that BBC execs “are fully committed” to his grand vision, he said, “There’s lot of decisions we’re making that are about making all that possible. It’ll be amazing.”

What of rumors that the Time Lords of the past — any combination of Tom Baker, Peter Davidson, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy, Paul McGann, Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant — will reunite for the occasion? And might other familiar faces from the past return?

“Possibly…. It’s so far in the future, it’s only a set of notions,” he replies, adding that he’s still got this year’s Christmas special to focus on before he gets to locking in plans for the 50th anniversary.

That first sentence seems a little biased. ONE OF the greatest shows ever made, for sure. “The best show that there ever will be”? that’s a little much. How boring would the rest of one’s viewing life become if they think they’ll never see ANYTHING better?

I’ve watched a lot of shows and none have ever come close to the overall greatness that is Dr Who….and with new episodes on the horizon for the foreseeable future, I don’t see anything catching it or surpassing it….
