At long last, the fifth installment in George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire is hitting stores today. “A Dance with Dragons” goes on sale today and fans around the world are eager to get their hands on the novel.
It’s been six years since “A Feast for Crows” and during that time the best-selling fantasy series has risen in popularity. It was helped by the magnificent TV series Game of Thrones earlier this year, which helped paperback editions of the series land in the top ten of the New York Times’ best-seller list.
The new novel is hitting shelves worldwide today with 650,000 hardcover copies published in over 40 languages.
At a Dallas bookstore in 1996, he was thrilled to see hundreds of people until he realized they were parents and kids. “Clifford the Big Red Dog crushed me,” he recalls to USA Today. “There were like 12 people to see me. It was humbling.”
On a recent visit to Slovenia, 2,000 fans stood in line to meet Martin, who now gets recognized in airports. “It’s flattering if a little disconcerting,” he says.
Martin says the series has come a long way since the first novel hit stores in the mid-90s.

The book is fantastic so far, I’m about 10 chapters in so far. He really hits the ground running.
As I read, I realized that the last time I read a new chapter from Tyrion or Jon some of the other characters that were missing from A Feast for Crows that my now 16 year old daughter was FIVE YEARS OLD.
