Having a hard time getting your hands on a copy of “Doctor Who: The Complete Fifth Series?”
You’re not alone.
TVShowsonDVD.com reports that fans across the United States are having problems getting the DVD and Blu-Ray releases of the set from either traditional brick and mortar stores or on-line venues.
Here’s their report:
We mentioned around mid-day at our Facebook and Twitter feeds that we were aware of the issue, by saying this: “We’re looking into fan reports that today’s BBC releases (Sherlock S1 & Doctor Who S5) may not have made it out to the stores in all formats“. As the day wore into the afternoon and evening, and then into this morning, we received word from employees at a FEW various brick-and-mortar stores that they had received stock…but at the last minute (for example, one “big box” store manager told us that the DVD version of Doctor Who had arrived a week ago, to be stored in the back room until street date, but the Blu-ray version didn’t make it to their location until it was drop-shipped by express carrier yesterday afternoon!).
Today the BBC responded to our inquires with this statement: “All Sherlock: Season One and Doctor Who: The Complete Fifth Series DVD and Blu-ray sets, that were ordered on time by retailers, have been delivered. A great reception for both series has lead to a larger demand for the titles. We are currently working with retailers to meet this demand in a timely manner.”
The high demand for “Doctor Who” and “Sherlock” could mean that sets are selling out quickly. And that’s good news for both shows.
However, it’s not good news for fans who want their copies immediately. Hopefully, this won’t discourage fans from supporting this great show.

I did manage to get my hands on Doctor Who — Thank you, Newbury Comics. — but I haven’t seen a single copy of Sherlock yet. I try not to buy DVDs at Borders or Best Buy, since they tend to overprice things and I prefer to support regional chains or independent stores, but that might be my only option this time around. (It was for Max Headroom. 🙁 ) I’m definitely not buying it from Amazon. I’m mad at them again for their most recent annual fail-fest.

Barnes & Noble (online, at least) had to delay my order of the “Who” Blu-Ray set. Very disappointed, but they say it will ship within the next week, so keeping my fingers crossed…!

Good thing that I got Sherlock in Region 2! It came out before R1.

I got my Season 5 DVD set at Best Blue. They did not have a large quantity of them and I got one of the few copies that they had for sale.

Amazon says they have it in stock.

Amazon does not have Sherlock in stock. My pre-order was delayed by one to three weeks.
