Meyer “Burned Out” on Vampires

Meyer “Burned Out” on Vampires

June 28, 2010 By Mike Hickerson 4 Comments

The “Twilight” saga has brought fame and fortune to author Stephenie Meyer, but fans hoping for a new installment of the series, told from Edward’s point of view may be in for a long way.

Meyer began the story a few years ago, but reportedly stopped writing it when the first 12 chapters of the rough draft were leaked on-line.

Now it appears that Meyers may not take up the story again any time soon. She tells the web site TwilightSeriestheStories that she is burned out on vampires.

“”I know that’s what everyone cares about. I also know that the right answer would be for me to say ‘Oh yah, it’s done! And it’ll be out next month!’ But that’s not true,” she says. “It’s also not true that I’ve got a ton of work done on it, and that’s what I’m working on. What’s true is that I’m really burned out on vampires. And, I don’t want to write it badly. So I want to wait until I’m excited about the material again, and I’m excited about Edward, and that it’s something that’s motivating. You know, when a story is keeping me up at night, and I’m waking up at 4 am in the morning and thinking ‘Yes! That is what should happen in this moment!’ Then that is when I can write with happiness! So, right now it feels like homework … it really does. And when things feel like homework they go very, very slowly for me.”

Added Meyer: “That should disappoint everyone!”

I wouldn’t call how I feel “disappointed”. Perhaps “deliriously happy”or “thrilled beyond belief” might come close.

I too am thrilled but not out of hate of the Twilight series. I enjoyed it just fine, however I enjoyed Meyer’s other work, “The Host” MUCH more, and am excited to see what other things she comes up with.

It will give those who are obsessed with this series a chance to experience something different and better. And hopefully those readers will grow up and enjoy some other authors who don’t write wooden dialogue. Sorry about throwing a little opinion in there, but I admire her for getting a new generation to read.. I just hope they find other authors out there.

Hopefully this “feeling” of being “burned out” lasts FOREVER. Stephen King has it right, “the real difference [between J. K. Rowling and Meyer] is that Jo Rowling is a terrific writer, and Stephenie Meyer can’t write worth a darn. She’s not very good.”
