Looking for a gift for the “Doctor Who” fan who has everything?
You might want to surf over to E-Bay and put in a bit on the original synthesizer used in the mid 60’s to create one of the world’s most iconic and recognizable theme songs.
Gizmodo reports that the actual EMS VCS3 synthesizer used by John Baker at the BBC Radiophonic Workshop to create the “Doctor Who” theme is currently up for sale by Baker’s estate. At the time of reporting, the highest bid was $6000.
According to the report, the device hasn’t been used since the late 70s and is in good condition. Meaning that if we could somehow procure it for Slice of SciFi (you can hit the donate button!), Mike could use it in the studio to create all kinds of cool “Doctor Who” theme effects for the show.
Here’s the theme it helped create…
