Returning Monsters Confirmed for “Doctor Who”

February 11, 2010 By Mike Hickerson 2 Comments

For months, we’ve heard rumors that a certain classic series monster was returning for the upcoming series of “Doctor Who.”

If you don’t want to know which monster it is, please stop reading now…

Speculation has centered on the return of the Siluarians to the series.  The lizard-men were featured during the Jon Pertwee era in the seven-part story, “Doctor Who and the Siluarians” and returned with their Sea Devil cousins in Peter Davison’s “Warriors of the Deep.”  For years, its’ been rumored they’ve be coming back to the new series.

Now it appears it will finally happen.

Actress Neve McIntosh revealed the news during an interview with the UK’s Perthshire Advertiser.

““The stories have got a bit darker. I play twins, and they’re big lizardwarrior women,” she says. “They’re one of the Silurian tribes that have been undisturbed under the earth. And of course we get disturbed. It’s the first time I’ve worn prosthetics but I’m still recognisable if you know me well enough.”

McIntosh went on to give high marks to incoming Doctor Matt Smith.

“I think he’s going to be really good, the best yet out of the new guys,” she said.

The return of the Silurians will be a two-part story for the upcoming fifth series. If you want to see the original version, both stories with the classic monsters are available on DVD.

Now if they could just figure out how to bring the Zygons back for series six….

Cool. Good to get some more classics into the mix. I mean, I love the Daleks and Cybermen and all the new creatures, but digging into the monster archives for a little variety like they did with the Sontarans is fun too. 🙂
