Review: “Star Trek: A Continuing Mission”

Review: “Star Trek: A Continuing Mission”

February 10, 2010 By S. K. Sloan 1 Comment

From executive producer Andy Tyrer comes “Star Trek: The Continuing Mission”. For the last two years the production team of the series has been producing high-quality science-fiction audio drama free to download from their website.

Boasting of guest stars and casting from some of Star Trek’s noted alumni, this audio series is very professionally done with first class sound quality and Hollywood style musical tracks.

The show’s latest entry, titled “We Will Control All That You See and Hear,” (WWCATHYSAH) began its debut episode on January 31, 2010. It was written by David Raines and co-directed by Patrick McCray and Sebastian Prooth. This production stars the voice work of Daniel Roebuck, a well-known Hollywood character actor who has worked with such super stars as Tommy Lee Jones, Dick Van Dyke, William Shatner, Andy Griffith, Patrick Stewart and many others. His resume includes films and television productions like “The Fugitive,” “Lost,” “Boston Legal,” “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” and more. Roebuck stars as Admiral Miles Rowan in WWCATHYSAH.

The rest of the cast and crew is composed of an international collaboration of talent from the USA, United Kingdom, Germany and took eight months in total to produce, with a cast of over 20 actors including professionals who all gave their time freely to produce this ‘labour of love’.

Actress Celeste Yarnall, who starred alongside William Shatner (Captain Kirk), Leonard Nimoy (Spock), DeForest Kelly (Bones) and Walter Koenig (Chekov) in The Original Series episode “The Apple,” portrays the Vulcan named T’Pauk for this new audio episode. Also featured is Mark Allen-Shepherd as Commander Alex Miller. Most will remember Mark from his portrayal as Morn, Quark’s favorite barfly from “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine”.

Larry Nemecek is featured as engineer Lt. Commander Mark Dolding. Larry is a noted Star Trek author whose literary work includes the ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation Companion’. An interesting fact about Larry is that, in collaboration with his wife, sold a script to Paramount which was eventually reworked into the “Star Trek: Voyager” season seven episode ‘Prophecy’. Larry also had a cameo in the “Star Trek: Enterprise” season finale – ‘These are the Voyages’.

Evan English stars in the episode as Captain Richard Musaki. Evan was featured in all four seasons of “Star Trek: Enterprise” as Bridge Officer Ensign Tanner and also had a cameo role as a member of the Xindi Council. Evan also appeared in “Star Trek IX: Insurrection: as a Baku villager.

Finally, everybody’s favorite Klingon muscled-hottie Spice Williams-Crosby stars in the episode as Captain Lucy Merrick. Spice was featured in the Star Trek feature film – “Star Trek V: The Final Frontier”.

One of the really nice features of this audio program is the interviews with stars Daniel Roebuck, Spice Williams-Crosby, Celeste Yarnall and Evan English.

For a very nice ride back into the Star Trek universe I highly recommend getting these latest episodes for free from the Continuing Mission website.
