The proposed merger between Walt Disney and Marvel Comics faces a major hurdle today.
Marvel Entertainment has set today, September 29, as its “record date” for major stockholders before asking them to cast their support towards Marvel’s impending sale to Disney at an upcoming special meeting.
Marvel employees have been assuring fans and stockholders that nothing will change once the two empires merge. However, that hasn’t stopped some fans and stockholders from voicing concerns over the proposed deal.
Today’s “record date” may provide some insight into how the majority of Marvel’s shareholders feel about the impending sale. Some financial analysts have argued that Marvel was undervalued by Disney and there is also a pending class action lawsuit contending the same point.
According to Marvel’s by-laws, the Disney deal will come up for a stockholder vote in a special meeting within 60 days of today’s “record date.”
