It’s a good time to be a fan of the “Stargate” universe. A new series, “Stargate : Universe” is set to launch in a few weeks on SyFy and now comes news that the a new “Stargate: SG1” movie is close to becoming a reality.
“As far as I know, we may start in late fall or early winter this year,” actress Amanda Tapping tells SciFi Wire. “And I will slip back into Sam Carter very nicely; I’m looking forward to it.”
Long time “Stargate” director Martin Wood has been asked to direct the movie, a role he’s accepted. Wood said that the production team is currently working on wrapping production of the first season of “Stargate: Universe” and will then turn their attention to more adventures for “SG1.”
“”Then that may get done by the end of the year, that’s what everyone is hoping, at least,” Woods said.
Producers are hoping to use the window between “Universe” and Tapping’s series “Sanctuary” to make sure that the actress can be involved in the film. After that, Woods says that the focus may go to an “Atlantis” based movie.

Let’s hope they use the time off to find someone to write a decent script. They failed miserably at that with the previous SG1 movies.

Umm… Sorry, but this SG-1 movie news is only a rumor: http://stargate-sg1-solutions.com/blog/2009/09/producer-asserts-no-go-ahead-for-movies/

It’s not a rumor. It’s an assumption made by one of the stars of the movie. Amanda Tapping THINKS that they “may start in late fall or early winter this year”. But it’s not concrete.
And to answer Mitch from Omaha, the scripts are already done. They’re just waiting to shoot the movies.

Yeah, what Kyle said. At this point the Stargate gang is trying to figure out scheduling and funding for both the planned SG-1 and Atlantis movies. It’s been discussed quite a lot in recent weeks at both Gateworld and writer / producer Joe Mallozzi’s blog.
