Four actors have signed on for SciFi’s “Stargate: Universe.” Justin Louis (“The Andromeda Strain miniseries), David Blue, Brian J. Smith and Jamil Walker Smith are set to co-star opposite Robert Carlyle (“28 Weeks Later”) in the upcoming series.
“Universe” follows a group of soldiers, scientists and civilians left to fend for themselves when forced through a Stargate after their hidden base comes under attack. The survivors, who emerge aboard an ancient ship missing in the far reaches of space, are led by Dr. Nicholas Rush (Carlyle), who works to unlock the ship’s mysteries and return the group to Earth.
Louis (“Hidden Hills”) will play Col. Everett Young, an experienced Stargate team leader.
Blue (“Ugly Betty”) plays Eli Wallace, a slacker who just happens to be an utter genius with anything he puts his mind to — everything from mathematics to video games.
Brian J. Smith (“Hate Crime”) is Lt. Matthew Scott, a junior member of the Stargate team thrust into the role of leader well before he’s ready.
Jamil Walker Smith (“Sister, Sister”) plays Sr. Sgt. Ronald Greer, a Marine with a temper.
Sam says
They better cast some estrogen on the team.
Ken says
In the last Atlantis episode they were talking about what ships were available and the captain of the ship (can’t remember his name or the ship’s, but he was on X-Files) said something about a ship that even he didn’t know about the location.
I thought that would be the hint for this spin-off.
Arkle says
Robert Carlyle eh? Well my pessimism about this show has goen down a notch.

I’m pretty sure Caldwell was talking about the Apollo, which did make an appearance in the finale episode. They tried to stop the Wraith ship, but failed just as much as the Daedalus had.
Jerry says
ship lost far away in space, trying to return to Earth…mmmm..that sounds familiar..wonder if we’ll be seeing any Kazon, Borg, or Talaxians???
Chris says
Nope, the ship on the secret mission was the Odyssey. Just saw the ep last night.
Kyle Nin says
Okay, you could be right about that. But I’d still have to wait until “Universe” to see if it’s related. (Of course, why would they mention it if it wasn’t related?)
Jason says
So basically “SGU” will be a cross between Stargate Atlantis & Voyager, I got nothing.
Colin says
‘Voyager’ was far from the first story to have such a premise. That plot dates back to the begining of literature, such as ‘The Odyssey’. So I don’t really buy that as a criticism. I’m willing to give show a chance.
Kyle Nin says
I think it sounds more like “Lost in Space” (the concept) than “Voyager”.
Colin says
Fair point.
Arkle says
The problem with Voyager was never the concept. The idea behind it was actually awesome. It was the writing and acting that sucked.
Monica says
Seriously disappointed in their casting for this.
Richard says
I have looked at the cast. I’m not impressed. They have to have an enforcer. Worf, Teal’c, Ronin, and they all appear to be pretty boys or geeky. No normal people as usual. SG-1 was the best. O’neill was funny and a capable leader and fighter. I am a Stargate fan but I’m don’t think I’m going to be a fan of this show.
chris says
who knows we might even see the cylons
u64 says
Just hopes they keep the quality up. No filler-episodes.
There’s a big risk in that putting a time-limit to every
episode they might fall into the Reset-Button trap.
I’m actually complaining _before_ i’ve seen the show. lol
While it has Voyager-warning-bells ringing in my head. It’s
easy to forget that the Voyager was made bad on puspose
by moron writers.
I guess there’s no more alien looking like humans living
in Canada-style forrests. Hopfully some solid exploration.
