A group of gamers from Lafayette, Indiana recently completed a video game endurance test, playing seven Mario games in four days. Their goal was to raise money for Child’s Play, a charitable organization benefiting children’s hospitals.
The Mario Marathon 2 began on July 10 and ended Tuesday, totaling 96 hours and collecting $28,684.01 for the charity . The total was more than double last year’s tally of $11,676.
Over the course of four days, Brian Brinegar, John Groth, and Chris Deckard played through the seven main Super Mario games, beginning with classic NES game Super Mario Bros. and ending with recent Wii smash Super Mario Galaxy, without stopping. Not only did the trio manage to pull off this Herculean feat, but they proved their gaming mettle by securing a 100% completion in every game, collecting all 599 of the franchise’s elusive “stars.”
