Actor David Tennant has been forced to take a few days off from his run as the famous Danish prince “Hamlet” according to BBC News. Tennant has a chronic back condition that has been acting up and will force the actor to have surgery today for a slipped disc.
Tennant will then spend the next few weeks recovering from the surgery.
“My back problem has progressed to the point where it is currently impossible for me to carry on without surgery,” Tennant said in a statement.
“I want to get back onstage as quickly as possible and I am very grateful to Ed who has courageously got to grips with the role but in a much shorter time. It’s a fantastic achievement.”
There is no word yet on if or how the surgery and recovery will affect the filming of next year’s “Doctor Who” specials. Four specials are scheduled for production next year to air with the first scheduled to air for the Easter holiday. Tennant recently announced he will be leaving the role at the end of the specials.
We wish Mr. Tennant a successful surgery and a speedy recovery.
