Vandervoort Discusses Return to “Smallville”

November 6, 2008 By Michael Hickerson Leave a Comment

The last time we heard from Clark Kent’s super cousin, Kara, she was trapped in the Phantom Zone and being impersonated by Brainiac. Audiences wondering just what happened to the Girl of Steel will have their questions answered this tonight when Laura Vandervoort reprises her role as Cara on a new episode of the CW’s “Smallville.”

Vandervoort recently talked about her character’s return to the series for “Bloodlines” with TV Guide On-Line. Some of what she discusses could be SPOILER material, so you may want to wait and read the rest of this article after watching tonight’s episode.

Vandervort said she’s glad to return to the role and to get some closure to Kara’s storyline.

“When they told me last season they had kind of run out of storylines for me and they needed to focus on Clark, I was upset because in my mind I was planning to be back for another season. And there was also the [once-rumored Supergirl] spin-off thing,” she said. “But they’ve got to focus on Clark and Lois, and having another superhero around who could fly, while Clark can’t, wouldn’t work out.”

She went on to say that “Bloodlines” will probably be her last appearance on “Smallville.”

As for tonight’s episode and what fans can expect, Vandervort said the focus of the story is “Clark and Kara coming together as a family, but perhaps deciding that they need to not be in the same place to best help the world.”

She also stated that while her character did have the power of flight, she won’t be sharing that knowledge with Clark in tonight’s episode.

“There was that one episode last season where she attempted to teach him and it didn’t work out, so I don’t think she’ll be the one to do it.” she said. Vandervoort also said she finds it unlikely that audiences will see Clark done the cape and tights to become Superman before the series run is over.

And while the Vandervoort does share scenes with Chloe, played by Allison Mack, she said that Kara won’t realize the secret Chloe is hiding. “Kara doesn’t talk about Brainiac at all,” she said.

“Bloodlines” airs tonight at 8 p.m. EST on the CW.
