Johnny Depp and his “Pirates of the Caribbean” director Gore Verbinski, reteam for a new Paramount Pictures animated feature film titled “Rango.”
Shooting on the film begins in January with Depp voicing the lead character, a household pet who goes out into the world on an adventure to discover his true self.
Script duty fell to John Logan (“The Aviator”). Logan will adapt the script from an original idea of Verbinski’s creation.
The toon plans on using the latest in cutting-edge animation techniques that will allow Verbinski to motion-capture and translate every aspect of Depp’s performance, using it to drive the computer-generated character in a way that has yet to be seen in an animated feature, according to the director. Lucas’ Industrial Light and Magic (ILM) will be working with Verbinski on the project as they did with “Pirates.”
“Rango” is slated for a March 2011 release.
