Gnome Love

August 20, 2008 By Sam Sloan 4 Comments

James McAvoy and Emily Blunt are in negotiations to star in a film centered on garden gnome love. Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet were under consideration for the roles that would reunite them since “Titantic,” however, both opted out due to scheduling problems.

“Gnomeo and Juliet,” will be an adult CGI-animated adaptation of Shakespeare’s play “Romeo and Juliet,” and will contain some content that may not be suitable for small children. If they sign-on to the project McAvoy (“Atonement”) and Blunt (“The Devil Wears Prada”) will do the voice-work for two gnomes in love but who come from rival gardens.

Elton John’s Rocket Pictures will will co-produce and John will be providing some of his classic songs as part of the soundtrack.

Kelly Asbury (“Shrek 2”) has been picked to direct and screenwriters Rob Sprackling, John R. Smith, Kevin Cecil, Andy Riley and Mark Burton are making some last minute updates to the screenplay.

Look for “Gnomeo and Juliet” in theaters sometime in 2010.
