Liu, Jackson & Hamill Go Afro — Part II

Liu, Jackson & Hamill Go Afro — Part II

July 25, 2008 By Sam Sloan Leave a Comment

Lucy Liu (“Charlie’s Angles,” “Payback”) 39, will be joining the voice cast for Samuel L. Jackson’s highly acclaimed SPIKE TV animated series “Afro Samurai” when it returns to television January 2009. Also joining the cast is Mark Hamill (“Star Wars,” “Batman: The Animated Series”).

Liu will star in “Afro Samurai: Resurrection,” the two-hour sequel to the animated series starring, and produced by, Samuel L. Jackson. She will take on the role of Sio, a seductive, beautiful, but sadistic mastermind who is out to destroy the Samurai (Jackson). Hamill will take the role of Liu’s faithful servant and protector.

“When we first created the character of Sio, we knew that Lucy Liu would be perfect for the role,” said executive producer Leo Chu. “We thought we owed it to ourselves to at least ask her, never dreaming that she would say yes.”

Liu has done voice work in the past including the recent mega Jack Black hit “Kung Fu Panda.” Hamill, best known as Luke Skywalker in the last three Star Wars epic films is also the voice of The Joker in the Batman animated series. In our latest poll, Hamill is running second as the best Joker ever portrayed by an actor, right after Heath Ledger.
