Actress Evelyn Keyes has died at the illustrious age of 91 in her home at Montecito, California from uterine cancer.
Discovered by the famed Cecile B. DeMille, Keyes will always be remembered for her famous role as the younger sister of Scarlett O’Hara (Vivian Leigh) in the classic film “Gone With the Wind,” however she did her fair-share of of SF and genre-related movies.
She starred as the head witch instructor in “Wicked Stepmother,” “A Rebirth of Salem’s Lot” and a gig with Steven Spielberg for his television series “Amazing Stories.”
Other than “Gone With the Wind” her other three big screen features that are considered some of the great classic films were “Around the World in 80 Days,” “The Jolson Story” and “Here Comes Mr. Jordon.”
Apart from her acting career, Keyes was also famous for the men she married, particularly big band leader Artie Shaw and renowned director John Huston.
As time moved on and her acting career came to an end Keyes continued to express her talent through writing with such successful novels as “I Am a Billboard,” “Scarlett O’Hara’s Younger Sister” and “I’ll Think About It Tomorrow.”
