Huff & Cox Up For Constellation Awards

Huff & Cox Up For Constellation Awards

April 22, 2008 By Sam Sloan 5 Comments

Actress Christina Cox from ‘Blood Ties’ and the author Tanya Huff of the books that the popular series is based on have been recently nominated for Constellation Awards. The Constellation Awards are Canada’s Fan Awards for Excellence in Science Fiction Television and Film. “Doctor Who” leads list of nominees for second straight year.

All Canadian fans of science fiction film and television were invited to submit their nominations for the awards, and are now invited to vote for their preferences in all nine categories. Winners will be announced at the Polaris 22 convention, taking place on July 12th, 2008 at the DoubleTree by Hilton – Toronto Airport. The ceremonies will be hosted by Canadian actor/comedian Rick Green (“The Red Green Show”, “History Bites”).

CANADA’S SCI-FI FILM/TV AWARDS NOMINEES ANNOUNCED FOR 2008

Nominations for The Constellation Awards, Canada’s annual awards honouring excellence in Science Fiction Film and Television, were announced this week by the TCON Promotional Society. The nominated works cover several sci-fi faves, and feature newer series such as CBC’s “Torchwood” and CITY-TV’s “Blood Ties” & “Chuck” running against established fan favourites such as “Battlestar Galactica” and Global TV’s “Heroes”.

Canadian Co-Production “Doctor Who” picked up six nominations, including multiple nominations in the “Best Overall Science Fiction Film or Television Script” category.

Other nominees in the TV categories include multiple nominations for the Vancouver filmed series “Supernatural”, “Stargate”, and “Smallville”.

On the film side, last year’s popular “Transformers” movie beat out “Enchanted” and “Grindhouse: Planet Terror” for the most nominations. The TV Movie “Razor” from the “Battlestar Galactica” franchise is also well represented on the final ballot, as is the fantasy favourite “Harry Potter & The Order of the Phoenix”.

In perhaps the most interesting category, “Outstanding Canadian Contribution to Science Fiction Film or Television”, Toronto’s Tanya Huff, creator of the popular vampire series “Blood Ties”, finds herself pitted against Toronto-born actress Laura Vandervoort from “Smallville” and against four sci-fi series produced or co-produced in Canada.

The complete list of nominees can be found at http://constellations.tcon.ca.

The awards are organized and administrated by the TCON Promotional Society, the not-for-profit
corporation that has been organizing Toronto’s annual “Polaris” science fiction event since 1987.

I’m very happy that Blood Ties is nominated for a Constellation Award. I’m also happy for Tanya & Christina. I’m disappointed Kyle wasn’t nominted i must admit. Good Luck.

Blood ties is a fabulous series – It would be great if it wins the category and even better if it gets the exposure that another network gives us another series..Please
