American fans hungry for more Doctor Who will get two new releases and an anniversary edition release in early August, reports TVShowsonDVD.com.

On August 5, BBC Video will release the William Hartnell four part story, “The Time Meddler”, Peter Davison’s two-part story “Black Orchid” and a 25th anniversary upgrade edition of the first release of the Doctor Who DVD line, “The Five Doctors.”

“The Time Meddler” is the final story of the second season of the orignal series and features the Doctor’s first encounter with another member of the (then unidentified) Time Lords, the Meddling Monk. The story is a single disc release and features a commentary track, twelve seconds of restored footage cut from previous releases and a comparison of the original prints with the remastered prints. The disc retails for $24.98

“Black Orchid” is set during Peter Davison’s first year as the Doctor and finds the TARDIS crew arriving at Cranleigh Hall in 1925 where a deadly secret waits to be revealed. The release is one of the BBC’s “vanilla” releases that features fewer special features (there is a commentary track) and a lower price tag. Suggested retail for this disc is $14.98.

Finally, comes thes the 25th anniversary release of the story that celebrated twenty years of the Doctor’s travels through time and space, “The Five Doctors.” This 90-minute story features two versions of the story–the original version and the special edition that was released on DVD several years ago. Included are three commentary tracks (two accessible from menus and one hidden on the discs featuring members of the current show), a wealth of publicity materials from the original airing of the show, outtakes, and numerous featurettes on this celebration of twenty years of Doctor Who. The new edition of “The Five Doctors” is a two-disc set and will retail for $34.98.
