Joe Hill is the son of famed author Stephen King, and is a fine writer in his own right. His graphic novel “Locke & Key” has been optioned by Dimension Films which has designs to turn the novel into a feature film, according to Variety.
This won’t be the first of Hill’s work to be sanctioned for the big screen. His first novel, “Heart-Shaped Box” is currently under development at Warner Bros. for a feature film release.
“Locke & Key” tells the story of three kids who become the caretakers of Keyhouse, a mansion in New England that is full of secrets and magic. The kids discover doors that take them to different places, give them powers and even alter gender and skin color. However, lurking behind one of those doors is a hideously dangerous creature ready to violently strike any one who enters through it.
“I love what Joe wrote. There are fun elements that horror fans love, and it feels like a franchise where you can feel satisfied with each film, but there is a door left open for the next one,” said Bob Weinstein, chief and co-owner of Dimension Films.
