This year the big winner in animation at the upcoming Tokyo International Anime Fair (TAF) is “Evangelion 1.0.: You Are Not Alone.” The film walked away with the coveted Animation of the Year award.
The event held annually in the Japanese city of Tokyo is considered to be the largest and grandest anime, cartoon and manga trade fair in the world, boasting of over 107 thousands visitors to past events. This year’s fair is expecting to see even larger numbers.
“Evangelion 1.0: You Are Not Alone” is the latest feature installment in the Hideaki Anno TV/pic franchise about teens who pilot giant robots against alien invaders. It was a huge hit among fans and garned nearly $19 million (USD) for the film’s distributor, Klockworx..
Other winners at the TAF event were the Tawain produced feature “Adventures in the NPM,” Grzegorz Jonkajtys’ world renowned “Ark” and Moin Samadi’s “The Lost Puppet.” Getting special recognition were Young-kwang Jo’s “Christmas in Taxi,” Takashi Kato’s “The Clockwork City” and Guillaume Briet’s “BistRobot.”
The 2008 Tokyo International Anime Fair will be held between March 27-30, 2008 at the Big Sight event space in Tokyo, Japan.
