“Resident Evil” Takes a Dive

October 1, 2007 By Sam Sloan Leave a Comment

In a huge drop from last weekend’s resounding box office victory, the Milla Jovovich film, “Resident Evil: Extinction,” fell quickly from its number one slot to number three.

00000residentevilextinctionpubo.jpgThe third, and probably last, film in the Resident Evil franchise fell behind the weekend’s new entries “The Game Plan,” which was in first, and “The Kingdom,” in second. The gap between first and second was also large, equaling about a $5 million difference. “Resident Evil: Extinction” could only scrape up another $8 million in additional receipts over its debut last week.

“The Game Plan” is the Disney family-friendly film about an NFL quarterback who is living the bachelor lifestyle only to discover that he has a 7-year-old daughter from a previous relationship. It stars Dewayne “The Rock” Johnson who is out to change his hard action movie hero image for a more G to PG rated one. Johnson is also set to star in the Disney Witch Mountain sequel next year.

“The Kingdom,” has an all-star cast that includes Academy Award winners Jamie Foxx and Chris Cooper, with Golden Globe winners Jennifer Garner and Jason Bateman, and Emmy winner Jeremy Piven. The story centers on an elite FBI team sent to find a killer responsible for the bombing of an American facility in the Middle East.

We will have the Top Ten Weekend films for you in a couple of days.
