“X-Files” Film Sequel In the Works

April 23, 2007 By Sam Sloan 17 Comments

Written by: Samuel K. Sloan (SoSF Producer & Managing News Director)

frankspotnitzchristina.jpgIt was nearly a year ago that we had writer/director/producer Frank Spotnitz on our show and even then we discussed the possiblity of a sequel to the first and only X-Files film that was based on the famous Fox television series of the same name.

We have also written stories over the last two years with comments from both David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson about another film with the two of them portraying their legendary characters of Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. Both have indicated an openess to returning to the roles that made them household names.

The problem with all these reports from us and other news agencies is a lack of confirmation one way or the other. In fact, even when Frank was on our show back in May 2006, he was unable to confirm anything for sure because he hadn’t been contacted by anyone from the studio system about doing another movie.

Now we are happy to report that Frank has confirmed things are starting to move in the direction of another film for the X-Files. On his blog he has stated that a script for the movie is underway.

“…the second “X-Files” feature is finally in the works. A script is indeed in development, but I’m afraid that’s all I can say.”

That may not be much in the way of X-Files news, but it is the first positive piece of information to come down the pike since “X-Files: The Movie” came out nearly 10 years ago.

Duchovny has just completed two film projects, “Things We Lost In The Fire” and “The Secret,” with a new television series in pre-production. Anderson can now be seen in the Academy Award winning film “The Last King of Scotland” and is preparing to star in the new movie “No One Gets Off in This Town,” which is in pre-production. So, with their current commitments, production for the next X-Files flick will need to be scheduled around those.

In some other Spotnitz news — a “Night Stalker” revival is in the works with the show to return in reruns on the SCI FI Channel this summer.

Spotnitz and Touchstone are working together on a new project that, for now, is being kept under wraps.

By a “Night Stalker” revival, do you mean that there’s a possibility of new episodes on the horizon? Or do you mean that Sci-Fi will just be re-airing the episodes they aired last summer?

the xfiles sequal could be good IF they pick it up from the end of the first movie, when the xfiles got reinstated they incorporated that into the following seaon of the tv show but never explained what had happened with the trucks of “corn oil”
it would be interesting to see it all tie together

The X-Files was one of my first “can’t miss” TV shows and this was long before DVRs and Bit Torrent so I had to be sure I was home to watch when it aired. This was also the first online fandom that I took part in by visiting some of the old text based newsgroups and even a dial-up BBS (Bulletin Board System) or two.

Yes, I’m old but at least I’m not as old as Sam. 🙂

I really liked the X-Files; except for the last two or three seasons, but does anybody care anymore? It’s not like the first X-Files movie was very good. It doesn’t merit a sequel, artistically or financially.

Also, so much time has passed we could have a plot that has Mulder and Scully’s children investigating the UFO conspiracy.

I usually don’t see movies at the theater more than once, but I saw “The X-Files” movie THREE times. So don’t tell me that it wasn’t very good.

They’ve said earlier that the plot of the new movie will probably not follow the “alien conspiracy” story, like the first movie and a good deal of the series. But I think it would be better if it did.

Finally! I hope this is the beginning (okay, the second) of a long, long series of X-Files films, similar to the lengthy Star Trek franchise. Those of us who really care about The X-Files will see the film(s) often enough to more than make up for any lack of interest from non-die-hard fans. I can’t wait!

In reality, the new film should really pick up where the end of the series left, as Chris Carter left the show with a cliff-hanger. It would be great to see how Mulder & Scully deal with the inevitable alien invasion that’s scheduled to take place in 2012. But, after such a long time away, a nice simple ‘monster of the week’ film may be just what we need to settle us back into it. It shouldn’t be a sequal to the first film as it was resolved in the series and most of the characters in the film have been killed off. It’s good to hear there’s progress on this fantastic show 😀

Ultimately it is probably not best for anyone if they do create a long drawn out X-Files movie franchise, however I do think that Chris Carter and his crew do need to ultimately sum up the X-files show to close the cliff hanger he left on the series.

    1) What is the deal with their child William? I mean, she gave him up for adoption, and he was believed to be the “source” to save the world from the alien invasion in 2012.

    2) What ever happens with Mulder and Scully? Do they marry?

    3) What ever happens to Dogget and Rheas (sp?)?

    4) Also what happens to the actual X-Files. And does the government ever get called out for such a conspiracy that has been so ongoing for so long and involved soo many people.

I am tryng to think what else needs to be included:

    A) Mulder’s Sister — this has been solved
    B) Smoking Man — He died in the last season
    C) The Lone Gunmen — They died in one of the last seasons
    D) Mulder’s Real Father — that was announced a long time ago…

    I can’t wait.

The x-files season 9 was excellent. Mulder being away was great as he had turned into a pain in the ass!

Roll on the new movie and ANOTHER series.

I also want too see how the invasion continues…and how Alan Dale’s alien character develops.

    I am so excited!

X-Files is the best show.. Nothing beats it. I watch the reruns all the time and got to say this they need to finsh the story line with the invasion 2012. in my Book they should put a New TV Series on sci-fi or TNT or somthing it can be done…. but cant wait for the movie hopefully the make new Series with Mulders and skully or even new people just keep the series ALIVE.. i like Deirdre Halliwell statement also… so in all aspect Bring them BACK.

When are the reruns on right now? I caught it by accident once but would like to know when to look for it.

Does it air in Ontario Canada?

Since the next movie won’t be alien centered, I’m hoping it’s a quest to find/reconnect with Willim. M&S have always been portrayed as family oriented, so William would naturally be a priority. All other X-Files are mysteries that can go either way, but getting your baby back, filling the ultimate gap in your heart and getting on with your life can’t be left up in the air. I suffered a great deal of vicarious angst when Scully handed him over, not to mention it didn’t make sense — if “they” could find him at Scully’s home what keeps “them” from finding him anywhere?

“X-Files” Film Sequel In the Works-Gigs up spotniz!

unFame say: LA, CA. sources strongly speculate that,

“X-Files 2” Gillian Anderson Bullied Again by Nazi Hollywood.

Anderson Knew: that she would have to make a statement to old hollywood’s 2007 most recent public threat towards her, in making this x files 2—attempting to manipulate her involvement. anderson shows her wisdom in how she approaches addressing this issue, AGAIN. see, closely, her chosen words. her statements have been in two parts, to paraphrase, 1. first was to ensure her fans that she does care for them. 2. then her recent follow up public statements screamed to old hollywood, don’t even think about fking with me or my family again. (see her bringing up her documented, 2002 untold story. response to the latter will no doubt be the doctored sex photos posted with hollywood’s gossip sites, when negotiating|threatening. oh, have you seen (don’t be mislead by the date on the article):
    http://www.fatbackandcollards.com/2006/07/04/gillian-anderson-doesnt-want-to-believe-in-the-x-files-2/

A Lot Of Questions Here: did she give her permission for the photos displayed? …how did they get the photos? …why can’t anderson fight back? …who do you think owns or controls that site? …why haven’t duchovny, carter, spotnitz, who are in the article attached to the photos, not protested—why did they not protest anderson’s abuse in 2002? …is anderson being blackmailed? and this one… http://www.marilyn-monroe-memorabilia.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=158&Itemid=179&lang=de

What Would You Do: if all abandoned you while, old Nazi hollywood, stole your first motherhood—under contract—2002—then tried to destroy your rep, and ability to work again in your field, ever, because you protested? what would you do if this perpetrator publicly, freely raped your life, and your only daughter’s life—while co-workers watched on, 2002–then returned in 5 years insisting you work for them?

Anderson, And All Artist Are Free: …you can bet that she will choose a helen project, or not, or any other that is best suited for herself and family. the aug 2007 X-script issue, or other no go excuses, really might be …when attempting to contact her with orders to immediately report to xfiles2 filming set …perhaps the only response this time is …ring, ring! …ring, ring! …ring, ring! you can also bet that if anderson does xfiles2 it’s likely that there’s something extreme over her.

*Gillian Anderson best known for …well …being Gillian Anderson. cool

best wishes, thanks for having me

P.S. sorry duchovny …but …how is your–very TEMP–new deal with nazi hollywood going …isn’t it your paid voice, and image, that’s being used as the instrument to get this thing going again?…hee …hee

    Digital Spy:
    Gillian Anderson say:

    From Digital Spy:

    Gillian Anderson hated ‘X-Files’

Gillian Anderson has confessed that she hated her time on The X-Files and will never appear in another TV series.

The actress insisted that the only reason she played Agent Scully for nine years was because she enjoyed the financial rewards of starring on the show.

“I couldn’t get out of it. I didn’t have a choice. I had to sign a contract for five-and-a-half-years before I even went to my first audition – when I didn’t know if I’d got the part,” Gillian told Stella magazine. “Back then I was all innocent and I thought, ‘Wow that sounds wonderful.’

“But then, when I started, I realised I’d be in a Canadian wood working 16 hours a day for nine months a year. And the reason I stayed so long was because the only way I could get more money was to commit myself to doing it for another couple of years.”

Asked about future TV projects, she replied: “Oh, shut the f*** up! Are you kidding me? My God, I don’t even watch television. I don’t like television. I never have liked it. The whole concept of sitting down in front of a TV feels like one of the things that’s destroying society, as far as I’m concerned.”
