After a nearly 4 month delay Space Services will deliver the ashes of actor James Doohan (Captain Montgomery Scott) up into space via a rocket launch sometime in March. Doohan played the gruff but teddy bear engineer of the USS Enterprise under Captain Kirk’s command for nearly 40-years.
His ashes will be in good company. Also onboard are the ashes of the Mercury Faith 7 and Gemini 5 astronaut Gordon Cooper. Both he and Doohan were very much responsible for making space travel popular with the general public. The remains of 185 others are included, each being housed in their own containers.
So finally, Jimmy will get to boldly go where very few have gone before.
Rest in peace, James. You were an incredibly talented (and, IMNSDHO, under-appreciated) artist, and you are missed.
