Will Firefly Season Two Fly?
A spokesman for Joss Whedon, creator of Firefly and its spinoff movie, Serenity, told SCI FI Wire that Whedon hasn’t heard of Ace Underhill, an entrepreneur who said he is trying to acquire the rights to the SF TV franchise for purposes of mounting a second season to be distributed in alternative media. “Joss doesn’t really know anything about that guy, and I don’t really think he has a comment,” Whedon’s spokesman said in response to questions about Underhill’s efforts.

So as we promised in our original story — SQUASHED like a bug!
Our thanks to Mark from NY for this followup to our research on this story.

I don’t see how that squashes the story…Mr. Underhill never said he contacted Joss…in fact, in the interview I read he said the opposite. That he hasn’t talked to Joss.
Uncle Sam says
No, not in that particular interview with SciFi Wire. However, in another Q & A he made a very strong implication that he was in contact on some level with Joss or his representation in regards to the Project 2 enterprise.
I quote:
Q: Will Joss be involved?
A: “The ‘Verse without it’s creator? Please, let’s not be absurd. But Joss is very busy at the moment. We are taking care of all the mundane tasks and legwork that is required to untangle the legal issues to save Joss from any undue headaches. After all, it’s really tough to be creative when you’re surrounded by expensive lawyers”
From this statement, in which Underhill does not give clear clarification about his connection to Joss, but does imply that one exists by the way the response to the question is answered, is by its nature somewhat misleading, especially in light of the fact that we now have Joss Whedon’s representative comments concerning his total lack of knowledge of Mr. Underhill or his current activity in trying to resurrect Firefly.
Mr. Underhill’s comments and remarks in the Q & A can be found here: http://www.serenitymovie.org/browncoats/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1580
I am not doubting Mr. Underhill’s desire to bring back Firefly, but I do question his approach and method of implication of association with Joss Whedon where there is none to be had. The implication would lead some to think that he has Whedon’s blessing for this project, when we now know that is not the case.

the same thing happened during the SaveEnterprise campaign with the talks with Paramount…
Uncle Sam says
Not quite the same. Al Vinci was an actual representative working closely with and for the creators of Save Enterprise and Trek United in the behind-the-scenes negotiations with Paramount and the Canadian group, whereas Ace Underhill is not a representative for Joss Whedon nor the Firefly/Serenity franchise.
