The Firefly Season 2 Project

January 24, 2006 By S. K. Sloan 6 Comments

Got this from Dave and wanted to get it out there for all of our Browncoat listeners and viewers of Slice of SciFi.

NOTE:

This article is for information only. Slice of SciFi, after some extensive research could not completely verify those involved with the project save one Ace Underhill listed in the IMDB Database as a producer and film editor. Other reputable Browncoat groups are also tracking down the validity of this site’s claims. So let the reader use common sense before committing to any project.

The Firefly Season 2 Project:

Captain Mal and the crew of Serenity need your help to stay flying.

Project 2 is looking to push the envelope of episodic television by offering Season Two of Firefly in a groundbreaking new format. Each episode (or the entire season) would be made available for purchase in Standard or Hi-Definition.

It’s possible that subscribers may choose one of three playback options; monthly DVD deliveries, TV On-Demand using your cable or satellite provider, or computer viewing via Streaming Download.

It’s also possible that a box set of DVD’s would be available at the end of the season.

Sound too good to be true? It may just be. As far as we know Joss Whedon is not involved in anyway with this so let the reader beware. We will keep you posted and if this is the real deal then we will definitely help push the effort and if it’s not, then we will squash it like a bug.

Is this the same guy that was mentioned at Whedonesque? His company is a production support company out of Costa Rica that supplies equipment, scouts locations, does video editing…like myriads of companies in L.A. (I worked for one. The guy I worked for is also a producer and video editor. Comoe to think of it, so was I!

Yep! One and the same as far as our own research has shown up to this point. The more I look into this the more I am inclined to hold judgment until Joss either gives this his blessing or his thumb’s down. But we will keep investigating for now.

Color me extremely skeptical–even suspicious. As I’ve said elsewhere, the last thing the Firefly/Serenity fandom needs is some snake oil salesman fanning unrealistic flames.

Thanks Mike for the added info. We were aware of p=50254 and 9347. The added link with Ace Underhill’s most recent comments are much appreciated. It always helps to have all of you good people as an added resource when trying to track down the latest data on an ongoing story.

He (Underhill) “covertly” claims that somehow Joss is involved with this Project 2 endeavor but is relieving him (Joss) of the grunt work. I find that a little hard to believe as we all know Joss is a very hands-on, up-front fellow and Firefly/Serenity is his baby, one that he created, nurtured and weened. I find it highly improbable that he would not be directly and publically involved with an undertaking of this magnitude.

Thanks again Mike and all of you. Any new info on this that comes your way please feel free to post right here for all to benefit from.
