The Stargate franchise earned six nominations in this year’s Gemini Awards, honoring the best in television and film produced in Canada. The prestigious awards are widely regarded as “Canada’s Emmys.”
Stargate Atlantis picked up three nominations, led by Martin Gero for Best Writing in a Dramatic Series. Gero was nominated for the Season One episode “The Brotherhood.”
Leah Ehman and Todd Masters picked up a nomination in the Best Achievement in Make-Up category for the aged Dr. Weir in Atlantis’s “Before I Sleep.”
Finally, SG-1 and Atlantis nearly swept the Best Visual Effects category, with two nominations each. SG-1 was nominated for the seventh season finale “Lost City, Part 2” and the eight season premiere, “New Order, Part 1.” Its sister show scored nods for “Rising” and “The Eye.”
The shows will face an episode of The Collector in that category.
Stargate SG-1 earned three Gemini nominations last year, but did not win any awards. The show did win the visual effects award in 2003, for Season Five’s “Revelations.”
Awards will be presented on Friday, November 18. Visit Gemini Awards for a complete list of this year’s nominees.
