At this year’s Emmy Awards telecast Bill Shatner (Captain James T. Kirk) will join the stage with opera Diva and mezzo soprano, Frederica von Stade in an anniversary tribute to Star Trek. The two will lend their vocal pipes to the original 1960’s Star Trek theme song.

The franchise is celebrating its 39th anniversary this year (41st if you count the unreleased pilot, “The Cage”), and Shatner holds the distinctive honor of being the most well-known character. Star Trek also holds the record as the longest running series in television and movie history with the original and 4 TV spinoffs, 1 Animated Series, and 10 Feature Motion Pictures to its credit, many music albums, and lest we forget, innumerable novels.
