Will Crispin Glover Be “The Joker?”

August 16, 2005 By S. K. Sloan 4 Comments

An unsubstantiated rumor is floating around in the sci-fi ether that Crispin Glover, the consummate pundent of weird is being put at the top of the A-List to play the Joker in the Batman Begins sequel.

So far I have read or heard this rumor now by several different sources, including Solar Flare, the “Legions of Gotham” Forum Boards, and MK Magazine, just to name a few.

As much as I loved Nicholson in that role in the Batman movie with Keaton, I have to admit that Glover would be the ideal candidate for the part.

Whenever you see him, whether it’s the odd-ball Dad of Fox’s Marty McFly or the uber-creepy Willard with his rats, you are immediately convinced that this guy is not operating on all thrusters. And a man like that, is a perfect Joker.

If Glover does get the nod (and I hope he does), then the Joker character will forever be stamped by his performance and I “pity the fool” who tries to play the role in some future remake. That actor will always be compared to Glover’s portrayal and will be found wanting by comparison.

Now that I look at it, he may be perfect for the role.

OK how about this. Phillip Seympour Hoffman as the Penguin. He has everything you you need for Oswald Cobblepot – that dark social misfit hell bent on destroying the dark knight. He’s well capable of taking a character like the Penguin and transforming him from the original comic book incarnation to the big screen. If you doubt my words catch him in Capote. You know it makes sense!!!
