Two versions of “Galactica” Season One DVD

July 29, 2005 By Summer Brooks 1 Comment

Everyone who bought the “Battlestar Galactica” Season One early release set this week from Best Buy will be slightly dismayed to learn that the wider release to other retailers on September 20 will have more features and extras than the one that came out on July 26.

TVShowsOnDVD.com reports that Universal will include the original miniseries with the full season 1 set, including commentary on the miniseries, plus 9 of the 13 episodes.

A Behind the Scenes featurette, the Series Lowdown, and deleted scenes will be included, but it’s likely to be the same deleted scenes as in the current set. Exclusive trading cards will also be included as another bonus item.

So the new set will be a 5-disc set, one more disc than the current set, and priced cheaper than the current Best Buy exclusive, and I know I’ll probably get that one, too.

Any even though the new set won’t include the shiny Serenity preview DVD, it also won’t include the very interesting “War and Propaganda” short educational piece that ran on SciFi Channel without commercial interruption, and was narrated by Edward James Olmos and including interviews with the series creators and various other field experts.

That’s cool, I’m glad I decided to not buy the Best Buy one and wait for the better one 🙂
