MGM’s financial woes have done what SPECTRE and Blofeld never could–stopped James Bond.
The studio made it official yesterday that the twenty-third Bond installment has ceased development of the film and there’s no indication of when it may start again.
That’s not exactly new.
In April, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli of EON Prods., producer of the long-running franchise, announced they were suspending development of the film because of the financial difficulties of the film’s distributor, MGM, which still have not been resolved.
“We do not know when development will resume and do not have a date for the release,” they said at the time.

No, Mr. Bond, I expect you to die….
Michael Falkner says
James Bond will return.
Bronzethumb (from Australia) says
But if they don’t clear everything up soon, they might have to recast, and that would royally suck.
John from Jersey says
Oh, good. Because it’s not like it’s the third film in a trilogy or anything.
Kurt in St. George says
Oh what a great decision. The Quantum of Solace only brought in $586 million in worldwide sales.
MGM must be doomed to be shedding an obvious money making franchise like James Bond. In Hollywood if you can’t make big bets, you can’t make big bucks.
Sam Sloan says
MGM as a major movie studio is dead.

KG from DC says
Bond will find a new home and ultimately a new life. Unfortunately, It probably won’t be with Daniel Craig. Pity.
Kyle Nin says
Do they think that a James Bond film won’t make money?
Anne Gallagher says
Bond is just too great a character to be put on ice indefinitely. In an age when most movies are reboots and sequels, my guess is that Bond will be back. They will figure out a way to reinvent him yet again. Unfortunately, Danial Craig might not be in position to play Bond when they get around to making another movie.
