Quesada Promoted by Marvel

Quesada Promoted by Marvel

June 7, 2010 By Michael Hickerson 1 Comment

Marvel Entertainment has a new chief creative officer: Joe Quesada, who is moving up from his position as chief creative officer and editor in chief of Marvel Animation & Publishing.

Quesada will report to Alan Fine, executive vp, office of the president and chairman of Marvel Studios’ Creative Committee.

“Joe has already played an instrumental role as editor in chief in changing the face of the comic book industry with bold new ventures and an unprecedented penetration of the mainstream consciousness,” said Fine. “His love and passion for Marvel, along with his experience guiding publishing for the last decade, will be invaluable as we bring our characters to life in new media.”

Though Quesada will continue as Marvel Publishing’s EIC, his new mandate will include making sure that “all portrayals of Marvel’s characters and storytelling remain true to the essence of Marvel’s rich history.” So he will have his hands in all story development for Marvel’s films and animation, and he will maintain creative oversight of Marvel’s business across all media platforms.

Also an artist, Quesada has shepherded new imprints Marvel Knights, the Ultimate Universe and Marvel MAX.

Marvel Studios is prepping the features “Thor,” which hits theaters next May, “Captain America: The First Avenger,” “Runaways” and a reboot of the Spider-Man franchise.

Hmmm… so basically they promoted him to a position with duties he was already doing. Basically, they just acknowledged his hard work. Good for him.
