The BBC News Service has confirmed that Billie Piper will definitely be returning to “Doctor Who,” laying to rest the long-awaited speculation. She will reprise her role as Rose Tyler for three episodes of the sci-fi drama.
The new season for “Doctor Who” will begin in March 2008 for 13 episodes. Then there will be three special editions in 2009 before the show takes a break until 2010.
Rose Tyler has been the most popular and successful Doctor Who companion since the days of Elisabeth Sladen’s role of Sarah Jane Smith back in the 1970’s incarnation of Tom Baker’s Who. The role of Rose Tyler has won Piper the most popular award by the National Television Awards in 2005 and 2006. Piper starred with two Doctors – Christopher Eccelston and David Tennant.
Filming is currently under way in Cardiff for the new series of “Doctor Who,” which sees the Doctor meeting an old group of enemies – the Sontarans – 35 years after first encountering them, according to the BBC.

There are only a very few ways they could make this work well and a whole lot more ways this could go wrong. I’m hoping for the best with Rose’s return.
I wrote more thoughts about this on my blog too that you’re welcome to check out if you like.
