Award-winning writer and Afrofuturist Ytasha L. Womack talks about her exploration and examination of Miles Morales as Spider-Man, and his impact on the Marvel Universe in comics and film.

Ytasha talks about how she discovered Miles Morales as the new Spider-Man, and how that led to her studying the links between Miles Morales, music, and Brooklyn that were hiding in plain sight. She also examines the differences between the life and support systems that surrounded Peter Parker and what Miles Morales has to juggle while he lives his life and discovers his powers.

We also talk a little bit about the documentary White Scripts and Black Supermen: Black Masculinities in American Comic Books, which appears to be available on Kanopy, and her graphic novella, BLACK MOON RITUAL is available from AWA Studios.

This book is another wonderful addition to Bloomsbury Academic’s “Marvel Age of Comics” catalog.
